Yard and Coop: Chicken feast

Writer's picture: Leeds Food GuideLeeds Food Guide

If you love chicken, then you will adore Yard and Coop! The chicken specialist in Leeds is located next to Queens Arcade and offers a range of finger licking good chicken dishes, as well as some awesome veggie options. We visited Yard and Coop this Easter weekend and were blown away by how good the food was! Have a read to find out why...

The Easter chicken special at Yard and Coop was the 'Hot Cross Bun Burger' featuring two fillets of crispy southern fried chicken, smokey bacon, chipotle sauce and a fried egg, all inside a hot cross bun, with a creme egg on top- because it is Easter after all! The burger was pretty epic, despite being hard to eat. The chicken stayed crispy, the bacon was delicious and the sauce was seriously good- adding a little heat to the dish. Only think we weren't about was the fried egg as we didn't think it was needed, but it was nice to have a runny yolk to dip the salty chips into!

We wanted to try a selection of dishes - so asked for the waiters recommendations! He suggested the bao buns, and we are so glad that he did! They were insane! The chicken filling (again southern fried) varied in spice level, and the additional sauces took us from the spicy sweetness of Asia, to the smokey heat of the US, and then brought us back to the UK with a milder bun, topped with a crispy stuffing ball. These buns were seriously good, and we couldn't recommend them highly enough! We agreed that eating all three would be pretty tough, so they are probably better eaten as a sharing dish!

Here is a pic of everything that we ordered at Yard and Coop! Pretty epic I am sure you will agree. A real feast, especially as there were only 3 of us eating! Shown here is the bao buns, a mixture of sides (macaroni cheese, halloumi bites, cucumber salad, crispy soy brussels, chicken wings, and three types of fries). Seriously seriously yum.

The macaroni cheese was a hit with us as the cheesy topping was crispy and the sauce inside creamy and delectable. I also loved the soy and kale topped fries which were slightly salty - fab! We all loved the wings, and the sweet potato fries - both of which were devoured in minutes. Surprisingly we all also loved the brussels which were slightly crunchy, and the sweet, sticky soy glaze was incredible - fab for dipping extra fries into!

We couldn't say no to trying the deep fried creme egg! It was incredible, although I don't think we could have eaten many of them. It was very sweet and pretty rich, but as a novelty dessert it was well worth a try! I would have liked a little ice cream to cut through the hot and creamy egg, but it was still very yum.
