Revolution: Call lane

Writer: Leeds Food GuideLeeds Food Guide

Leeds Food Guide were invited to try out some of the dishes on the new menu at Revolution, Call Lane. In addition to a new and improved menu, we were also impressed by the updated decor, and smart new seating areas making Revolution Call Lane a fab place to meet friends after work, or enjoy a meal.

Who can say no to a mid week cocktail? As predominately a bar, we couldn't help but try out one of Revolutions incredible cocktails. We opted for the sweet and sophisticated 'Pornstar Martini' made with Skyy passionfruit vodka, orange and passion fruit juices and a shot of Frieixenet Prosecco. It was delicious, and made even more special by the passion fruit decoration.

Colourful bunless beetroot burger with sweet potato fries - this was one of the mains that we opted for at our recent visit to Revolution on Call Lane. We wanted something fresh and healthy, and this dish did not dissapoint. The dish was a good size and well priced.

And here is a close up of that crunchy beet burger with avocado, hummus and salad. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish - I was surprised by the well balanced combination of flavours and the freshness of the plate. Although the plate may have been a little less pretty if the patty had been served in its wholemeal bun, I am sure it would have been just as tasty.

A fab way to start a meal, or in our case, a brill sharing platter for two, the Veggie Mediterranean platter on offer at Revolution boasts beetroot, guacamole, hummus, pitta, onion and tomato salad and olives. The olives were a highlight for us, as they were slightly spicy, with a smoky warmth from paprkia. Yum.

Although it was tasty, we were a little dissapointed by the lack of 'scoops' for the dips- there wasn't enough pitta for all that hummus and avocado, and as much as we tried, the wedges of beetroot just weren't cut out for the job. We would have loved a bowl of nacho chips, or even just a few more strips of pitta to enable us to enjoy all of the delicious dip goodness. We also agreed that we would have loved a few falafel, or something similar as the platter was very salady - although we do appreciate this platter wasn't designed to be eaten as a main!

Up close and personal with those incredible sweet potato fries because I mean who doesn't love a crispy, sweet and slightly sticky sweet potato fry? These fries were fab and I would be very happy to head to Revolution for a tub of these fries and a bowl of hummus to dip them in to- a fab afternoon or post work snack!

We enjoyed our meal at Revolution on Call Lane and were impressed by the fresh flavours and range of choice on offer - for both meat eaters and veggies. And for those that love a cheeky tipple, Revolution is worth a visit as their cocktail menu is even bigger than their food menu- with an envyable array of drinks.
