Italian feast at Giorgio's

Writer: Leeds Food GuideLeeds Food Guide

Giorgio's is an Italian gem in Headingley serving an array of classic Italian dishes in addition to some special creations that are sure tickle your taste-buds. We were kindly invited to Giorgio's for dinner this evening. On arrival we were greeted by lovely staff who went out of their way to make sure we had drinks and were happy with our table. We then spent a good 15 minutes trying to decide what to order as the menu is extensive!

We opted for a pretty good array of dishes (as we waned to give the menu a really good try). To start we ordered:

> Mozzarella Carrozza, breaded, fried sliced mozzarella served with a bowl of rich tomato sauce and a fresh salad. The mozzarella was super melted and stringy - a fun start to the meal.

> Garlic Pizza bread con pomodoro (with tomato). The garlic bread was served on a crispy pizza base, and the topping was heavily loaded with flavours of the Mediterranean. Delicious - and went really well with the tomato sauce served with the mozzarella.

> Roasted portobello mushroom stuffed with goats cheese, and served with caramelised onions and a fresh cucumber salad. This dish was one of the specials that we told was a must try, and we are glad that we did! Although you couldn't taste the mushroom, the cheese was rich and the onion sweet, and we really enjoyed the combination of flavours.

For mains we opted for:

> Branzino alla Griglia, chargrilled sea bass fillets served with an olive oil and lemon dressing. For me the fish was perfectly cooked (flaky and moist), and it was well seasoned. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, I felt that the dish could have benefited from an additional side (baby new potatoes, a larger salad or some homemade bread) since the dish was very simple for the price.

> Gnocchi Sorrentina, a classic vegetarian dish of home-made potato gnocchi in a fresh tomato sauce. The gnocchi was light and the sauce well seasoned. We liked the addition of fresh tomatoes in the sauce, but thought it would have been good to have some extra mozzarella in the sauce or on the top.

> Penne al Ragu di Agnello, a lamb pasta dish served with a rich tomato sauce heavily flavoured with rosemary, onions and garlic, finished with parsley. We loved the meaty flavours of the dish and thought that the pasta was cooked to perfection. The addition of Parmesan at the end was fab!

Check out Giorgio's website for their full menu!

Even though we were pretty full, we had to order some dessert (because it would be rude not to) we opted for:

> Tiramisu, the absolute classic Italian dessert with layers of sponge cake with mascarpone cheese, espresso and marsala wine. We loved how light the dish was, and thought the portion was very generous considering the price.

> Mousse al Cioccolato, the rich and creamy chocolate mousse was served in a large mug with a chocolate straw. The mousse was pretty heavy and very rich, but we enjoyed the chocolatey flavours and the creamy texture.

We would certainly recommend Giorgio's for those looking for a quality Italian feast in Headingley. The menu is extensive and supplemented by weekly specials. The staff are also really helpful - which always helps to make a meal special. Giorgio's also offers a range of special deals and student discounts - making it a fab location for those wanting a tasty meal without bursting the bank.
